Alastair has 18 years international experience in the mining industry working on a large variety of deposits and operations worldwide. At Datamine International he gained extensive experience in geological & mine engineering technical consultancy in a range of commodities including gold, base metals, coal & industrial minerals. He has participated in a number of feasibility studies, technical due diligence, appraisals and has expertise in the generation of production cash flows to maximize NPV. Whilst working for Goldfields of South Africa, Alastair worked in a number of West Wits gold mines and a variety of exploration projects in the Northern Cape. Previously he spent two years with Lonmin Plc (the worlds third largest PGM producer) in their business development team based in London. At Lonmin he was involved in M&A and corporate restructuring, including BEE transactions. He started his career as a mining engineer with BHP Billiton in Australia, where he spent several years in operations management in various group collieries. He is a qualified underground coal mine manager and has experience in mining and environmental consulting both in Australia and internationally. After a spell in the investment division he worked in the gold projects department where definitive feasibility studies on internally designed new mines were taken to Board approval for financing. He then joined the Standard Bank Group, initially on the Gold Desk in Johannesburg dealing with large South African hedging transactions and then in London with Mining Finance. Vaughan is a qualified South African Chartered Accountant and completed his articles at Deloittes in Johannesburg. Vaughan spent four years at CMS Group, a specialised financial services company, managing the Asset Finance and Debt Acquisitions Departments. He has experience in credit, turnarounds, distressed debt and asset recovery was gained on numerous public and private sector assignments.
